At Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, around 2,600 plates of prime chateaubriand and Maine lobster were waiting to be served when a gunman rushed the Secret Service checkpoint, throwing the night into chaos. 

Attendees of the WHCD, which included Daily Mail staff, had only gotten through the salad course – featuring spring peas, burrata cheese, toasted pistachios, and an aged balsamic vinaigrette – when gunfire was audibly heard through the Washington Hilton’s basement-level ballroom.
