Temperatures to drop after record-breaking May heatwave – with rain and fresher conditions on the way

Temperatures will drop in the coming days as May’s record–breaking heatwave gives way to fresher conditions and sporadic outbreaks of rain.

Saturday marked the end of a spell of hot weather which saw highs of 35.1C at Kew Gardens in west London – while 32.9C was recorded at Cardiff’s Bute Park.

Scattered showers are expected across the UK on Sunday, with temperatures close to the average for this time of year.

Highs of 24C are forecast in London, with 19C in Birmingham, 17C in Aberdeen and 19C in Belfast.
