The saying goes that ‘inside every fat person there’s a thin one trying to get out’. But inside one of my thin friends there’s a fat child – herself, between the ages of eight and 18.
That was the decade when her weight ballooned, when furtive chocolate binges meant her thighs rubbed together and when changing for PE became a torture for her.
This being the era of The Goonies, she became known as Chunk, the character who famously did the ‘truffle shuffle’: lifting up his shirt to wobble his belly. And yes, she was teased many times to do the same.
