Drinking filtered coffee rather than instant could slow down ageing, a new study suggests.
Researchers found that people who drank filtered coffee tended to show lower levels of biological age acceleration, while those who drank instant coffee showed higher levels.
The associations became stronger as consumption increased, with the largest effects seen among people drinking more than three cups a day.
The researchers wrote: ‘Filtered coffee was associated with decelerated biological ageing.
‘In contrast, instant coffee was linked to an accelerated risk of biological ageing.’
They suggested the differences may be linked to the way coffee is processed and its effects on inflammation and metabolism.
