Arts Council is criticised for funding woke projects on a gay Romeo and Juliet and queer pan-Asian cabaret while traditional museums go bust

The Arts Council has been accused of ‘an appalling waste of taxpayers’ money’ for funding ‘woke‘ projects such as tackling the ‘divisive’ use of the St George’s flag – at a time when traditional museums are being forced to close due to lack of funds.

Recent awards by the organisation – which dishes out more than £840million a year in taxpayer cash and the National Lottery – included £100,000 for the Migration Matters Festival in Sheffield in June, which featured a flag-making workshop ‘exploring identity, protest and belonging’.
