The family of a British woman found dead in a suitcase in Athens after allegedly being killed by an Afghan migrant has spoken out for the first time.

Sharif Ahmadzai, a boxer from Afghanistan, is being held in connection with the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross after he refused to enter a plea on Thursday. 

Ms Ross had been a regular visitor to Greece, volunteering with NGOs helping refugees, homeless people and other vulnerable groups, particularly those from Afghanistan or Iran.

The Briton, who was from Edinburgh, arrived in Athens on June 26 and had initially been staying with Greek friends in the Keratsini
