One dead and 12 hurt after horse-drawn carriage crash in Switzerland

One person has been killed and 12 injured after a horse-drawn carriage crashed into a tree in the Swiss Alps.

Around 40 people were on two carriages in the woods in Val Roseg, near the border with Italy, on Saturday when the driver lost control, police said. 

While driving downhill, the driver noticed the brakes were no longer working as he tried to steer the carriages to flatter ground to slow down.

However, one of the horses fell and the driver lost control of the carriage before crashing into a tree.

Passengers inside the carriage were thrown onto the path following the collision, police
