Beauty spots across Sardinia’s coast are being overrun by a ‘locust swarm’ of tourist party boats, sparking fury among locals and conservationists.
Yachts and party dinghies have invaded parts of the Mediterranean Sea surrounding the Italian island this summer, in particular the protected Maddalena National Park off Sardinia’s north-east coast.
Footage has emerged of the region, an archipelago made up of around 60 islands, packed with pleasure craft whose anchors are tearing up the sea bed. One video showed a karaoke boat party blaring music.
Rosanna Giudice, president of the Maddalena National Park, told La Nuova Sardegna: ‘They come swarming in like locusts.’
