Multiple people have died in a crash involving a police car in the early hours of this morning.
The vehicle collided with a Volkswagen Passat on the A66 in South Bank, near Middlesbrough in Teesside, at around 3.40am.
North East Ambulance Service said the ‘serious’ crash involved three vehicles and a ‘number of patients died at the scene’.
The number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed and police are working to identify the victims.
The A66 is closed in both directions between Normanby Road and Church Lane and is expected to remain shut ‘for some time’, Cleveland Police said.
