Britain’s housing market is booming in parts of England, with homeowners in the North enjoying the gains while those in London continue to watch thousands of pounds wiped off the value of their properties.

House prices across the UK increased by 2 per cent in the year to June, adding around £5,392 to the value of the typical home and taking the average property price to £272,188, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Prices also edged up 0.1 per cent between May and June, suggesting the market is holding despite continued cost-of-living pressures.
