Revellers told to brace for more mixes of sunshine and showers – as Reading Festival wraps up and Notting Hill Carnival hits the streets

Festivalgoers will see a mixture of sunshine and showers on Sunday, with the potential for hail and thunder.

Scattered showers will mainly affect Scotland at the start of Sunday before spreading south into England, where some could turn heavy and thundery including around Leeds Festival, the Met Office said.

Reading Festival and Notting Hill Carnival could see occasional showers, with conditions turning wetter into the evening. Monday will be drier and brighter, but still with some showers.

This year marks 60 years since Notting Hill Carnival began in 1966 and, while Saturday saw a quieter start with young performers taking to the stage
