€2.3million is paid out to four of the 16 families of people who were killed in the Lisbon funicular crash – as final report into tragedy is delayed

Four of the 16 families of those killed in the Lisbon funicular crash will receive a pay-out totalling €2.3million.

Almost one year following the Lisbon Glória disaster, Fidelidade – the insurer covering the accident – has confirmed it will commit the sum toward compensation and other costs to relatives of some victims.

This includes funeral and repatriation costs, medical treatment, hospital stays, surgery, rehabilitation, transport and loss of earnings.

The insurer, based in Lisbon, said it has reached compensation agreements with four of the families of those killed, but is still negotiating settlements in another seven cases.

One case is currently being dealt with
