Kemi Badenoch vowed to bring back ‘common sense’ Conservatism today as she dropped another big hint at a pledge to slash inheritance tax.
Kicking off the party’s conference in Birmingham, Mrs Badenoch said she was emulating Thatcher by returning to ‘timeless’ core principles to turn Britain around.
The Tory leader said successive governments had been buffeted by events because they were obsessed with performative policies instead of fundamental beliefs about the world.
Hailing a 95-page ‘mission statement’ entitled ‘The Right Way’, Mrs Badenoch insisted: ‘The principles and the values never change. Personal responsibility is not a 1980s idea.’
