French protests spread across Europe as buildings are set on fire, cars overturned and riot police arrest more than 270

Protests are spreading across Europe after rioters in France torched a tourist office and set cars on fire in a day of violent protests against Emmanuel Macron’s failing government.

French police have responded with tear gas and water cannons and have arrested more than 270 people so far, as carnage also erupted in Belgium today with activists overturning a car in Brussels.

France’s Yellow Vest activists have joined student protesters, as hundreds of thousands took to the streets across the country, triggering numerous flashpoints.

Some of the worst violence was in the eastern city of Lyon, where a tourist office was set on fire
