Upgrade: A Modern Fairytale of Ambition, Romance, and Artistic Passion

With the new release of Upgrade, now streaming on Amazon Prime, this movie will leave you feeling a surprising sense of nostalgia. With a delicate balance of Devil Wears Prada and Cinderella that will leave you curious about what will happen next.

The star-studded cast is stacked with Camila Mendes, best known for Riverdale, Archie Renaux, from Shadow and Bone, Marisa Tomei from My Cousin Vinny, Anthony Head, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Saoirse-Monica Jackson from Derry Girls and more will keep you well entertained.

Ana (Camila) is a broke art lover with big dreams of someday owning her own gallery. She gets to upgrade to first class on a work trip, where she meets a handsome young man named Will (Archie), who mistakes her for her boss. The white lie sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance, and opportunity until her fib threatens to surface.

Marisa brings her full training and background to the screen with her portrayal of Claire, which brings her up to par with Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly in Devil Wears Prada. The drama and passion for art bring an intensity that will catch your breath in your throat. But Camila holds her own as the counterpart in trying to keep herself afloat while staying true to who she is at her core. Archie plays the role of the romantic lead well, but his performance lacked a certain luster that, besides a passionate first kiss, the female gaze focused more on Ana’s storyline.

The visuals of the locations, from restaurants and offices to home decor, are nothing short of breathtaking. As someone who has a love and fondness for London, the cinematography and style show every scene as a must-see tourist destination. The location scenes are complimented all the more by a spectacular wardrobe for each character, bringing in their own sense of style and demeanor that shares with you a glimpse of what you can expect from them before they open their mouths.

The underlying theme throughout the movie is, “How can she win?” Again, this has a Cinderella theme, with Ana trying to make a name for herself to become the success she spent years studying and researching to become.

Sometimes, 15 seconds is all it takes to change the course of your entire future.

In conclusion, this film is excellent for the whole family to see and experience together because there is something for everyone.
