Pictured: Birdwatcher killed by hantavirus on ship – as official says the Dutchman and wife DIDN’T catch rat virus from landfill site with NEW location under spotlight

Patient zero of the deadly cruise ship rat virus outbreak that has killed three passengers and infected several more has been pictured for the first time. 

Ornithologist Leo Schilperoord, 70, boarded the MV Hondius with his wife after making visiting a landfill site in Argentina, where they went birdwatching. 

Mr Schilperoord died of Hantavirus on board the ship on April 11 before his grieving widow, Mirjam, 69, later passed away. 

She had disembarked with his body, before she started to feel unwell as she prepared to fly back to their home country of the Netherlands from South Africa.
