Hantavirus-stricken cruise ship arrives in Tenerife despite protests – as officials prepare to evacuate passengers and fly them home to quarantine

The hantavirus-stricken cruise ship has arrived in Tenerife, where most of the nearly 150 people on board will be evacuated and flown home to quarantine after weeks at sea, despite protests from scared islanders.

The Dutch-flagged MV Hondius arrived at the Spanish port of Granadilla escorted by a Civil Guard vessel, according to data from the maritime tracking service VesselFinder.

Passengers and some of the crew are expected to evacuate before the ship, where an outbreak of hantavirus led to three deaths, continues on its way to the Netherlands.
