A train driver has been charged after eight people were killed when a freight train collided with a bus at full speed in Bangkok.

The crash, which took place at a rail crossing on Saturday, sparked an inferno and also injured 32 people.

‘The train driver has been charged with negligence causing death, as evidence clearly indicates reckless conduct leading to fatalities,’ Urumporn Koondejsumrit, head of the Makkasan Police Station said.

The police chief said the bus driver would also be charged, but remained under medical treatment and could not be questioned, so charges had not yet been filed.
