A father who endured seven years of ‘unnecessary’ and gruelling treatment after doctors misdiagnosed him with terminal cancer is suing for medical negligence.
Simon Pearson, 41, feared for the worst after doctors told him his extreme tiredness was a symptom of a rare and incurable disease.
He was diagnosed with polycythaemia vera, a slow-growing blood cancer, after being referred to George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, with a high red blood cell count and abnormal iron levels.
He was also told he was suffering from haemochromatosis, a genetic condition that can cause organ damage by building up toxic iron in the body.
