Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas has been suspended from the party pending the outcome of a police probe, a party spokesperson said.
Mr Thomas has also had his party membership suspended, it is understood.
It is said he was arrested by Gloucestershire Police on Wednesday night – the evening of England’s first World Cup match.
The party said it was ‘unable to comment further’ while an ‘investigation is ongoing’.
That same night he posted a video on Instagram which showed him wearing an England football t-shirt.
