Major incident declared after two trains collide near Bedford: Driver feared dead and multiple passengers injured after Luton Airport Express ‘drives into back of stationary train’

One person has been killed and passengers have ‘life-threatening injuries’ after a train smashed into a stationary one following a safety fault.

The incident occurred around Kempston between Luton and Bedford, at about 5.15pm where two East Midlands Railway trains crashed into one another. 

A horrifying video taken at the scene shows passengers on board injured and covered in blood while the carriages are still on the tracks. 

Disturbing images show several passengers bruised with swollen faces, bandaged heads and covered in blood.

It involved the 3.50pm service from Nottingham to St Pancras International and the 4.40pm Corby to the major London station.
