Body of boy, 15, is recovered from country park river as death toll from Britain’s record-breaking June heatwave hits 11

The body of a 15-year-old boy has been recovered from a river at a country park – the 11th person to die in a water-related incident during the extreme heatwave.

The discovery was made two days after the teenager got into trouble in the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park in Swinton, Greater Manchester, on Saturday afternoon.

Police confirmed this afternoon that divers had located the body after the ‘incredibly upsetting’ incident and specialist officers were supporting the boy’s family.
