The incoming prime minister, who is due to replace Keir Starmer on July 20, could rewrite planned legislation to remove the contentious proposals when he takes office.
David Lammy, the current Justice Secretary and Deputy PM, has pushed the plans to limit jury trials as a means of tackling the huge backlog of crown court cases.
