Survation research released as the former Greater Manchester Mayor became leader found the party’s support has surged five points in the past month.

The shifts meant the parties were both on 24 per cent, with the Tories not far behind on 21 per cent. It is the first time since April last year that Labour has not trailed in a voting intention poll.
