‘We’re ready for anything’: Bordeaux braces itself for blazes as wildfires rage across France and Spain – with more than 300,000 evacuated

The mayor of Bordeaux has said his city is ‘ready for anything’ as out-of-control wildfires creep ever closer.

More than 300,000 residents have been evacuated across France and Spain as wildfires tear through the countries, and Bordeaux faces a total evacuation of its 270,000 residents.

‘We’re very vigilant. We’re ready for anything,’ Bordeaux mayor Thomas Cazenave said.

‘The fire is further south,’ he told reporters at a shelter for people displaced by the wildfires.

‘It is still on the edge of the metropolitan area, but it is not advancing on the western side of the metropolis,’ he said.
