A scandal-hit Cambridge professor appeared to pass off an inspirational quote as his own in an early draft of his memoir – before editors had to step in to clarify that it was actually said by tennis legend Rafael Nadal.

Professor Jason Arday quit last night after the university launched an investigation into him , having been at the centre of a growing row over allegations that he had copied parts of his PhD from another student.
