Daniel Kinahan has been taken into Dublin’s Special Criminal Court under armed guard after landing in Ireland on a government jet from Dubai in an unprecedented security operation to bring the alleged boss of a £1billion crime cartel to trial.

Kinahan, 49, was driven under heavy security from Casement Aerodrome at Baldonnel, on the outskirts of Dublin, to the three-judge court after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates.

The return marks the first time the alleged gangland boss has set foot in Ireland for more than a decade.
