Chessington theme park closes due to water shortage as car washes and swimming pools face water ban amid record-breaking drought and temperatures set to hit 36C

Chessington World of Adventures Resort was forced to turn away families in the middle of the school summer holidays today as it shut due to a water outage.

Bosses at the theme park in Surrey warned people not to travel following a burst water main, which Thames Water has since located and is now working to repair.

It comes as car washes and swimming pools face a water ban as the record-breaking drought worsens with no rain in sight and a sixth heatwave of the year this week.
