A father abandoned his seven-year-old son on a Japanese mountain so he could continue walking to the summit.
The child, from Nagoya, was found alone sitting on a bench on Mount Fuji in fog and rain on Thursday and taken into police custody, local police said.
He told his father, 48, that he was tired at the sixth station of the mountain, which is located at an altitude of more than 2,000m (6,500ft), local TV network SBS reported.
As his older brother had gone on ahead, the boy’s father told him to ‘wait here’ and carried on hiking with his other son.
