Two people have been killed and another seriously injured after an inflatable ride crash off the coast of southern France.

The tragedy happened off Saint-Cyprien, in the Pyrénées-Orientales, on Tuesday after the pilot of a motorboat towing an inflatable buoy was thrown overboard.

Prosecutors said the unmanned boat then began circling out of control before ploughing into the inflatable and the passengers riding on it.

One of those killed was the pilot, who was struck by the boat’s propeller.

A woman riding on the inflatable also died, while a man suffered serious injuries to his arm and leg and was airlifted to hospital.
