Monty Don is quitting Gardeners’ World after more than 20 years as the BBC show’s longest-serving Head Gardener.
The presenter, 71, made the announcement on Tuesday, confirming the current series broadcasting from his own garden, Longmeadow in Herefordshire, will be his last.
Monty joined the show in 2003, and in 2011, he welcomed audiences weekly into his own garden. In late 2025 he underwent ‘horribly painful’ knee surgery, explaining he had been in pain after decades of kneeling in the garden.
