Police failed abuse victim murdered by boyfriend who hid body in suitcase inside wheelie bin for months, coroner rules

A chief constable has admitted his force ‘should have done better’ after a coroner criticised officers’ failure to protect a mother-of-three who was murdered and hidden in a suitcase by her coercive partner.

Matthew Waddell was jailed for life with a minimum 32-year term in 2023 for killing Sarah Albone, 38, at her home in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.

After launching a ‘frenzied and horrific attack’ on her, he stuffed her body in the suitcase and put it in a wheelie bin, while sending messages from her phone to friends and family to conceal what he had done.
