Priest accused of raping worshipper and abusing others at ‘cult’ Christian church is likened to Jimmy Savile

An associate of a vicar accused of abusing female members of the congregation described him as the Church of England’s ‘golden boy’ as he likened him to BBC predator Sir Jimmy Savile.

Chris Brain, 69, has already been convicted of sexual offences against women who were part of the Nine O’Clock Service (NOS) in Sheffield.

But Brain denies one count of rape and four counts of indecent assault against four women at Inner London Crown Court.

Chris Essdale, a music producer, told jurors he knew Brain before he was a priest and involved in a rock band called Present Tense.
