Manchester Museum has removed an Egyptian mummy on display for over 200 years to ‘respect her wishes’.
Curators said they decided to stop showing the 2,700-year-old remains of a woman named Asru in a decision they said ‘aligns most closely with what we understand about her own wishes’.
Asru’s mummified body was donated to the Manchester Natural History Society in 1825, then carefully unwrapped and displayed in the Oxford Road museum’s Egypt and Sudan gallery.
