Popular British school meals from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s that don’t exist anymore as deep-fried food is banned… but there’ll be no end of lentils

It’s been more than two decades since Jamie Oliver‘s campaigning saw Turkey Twizzlers and chocolate concrete cake scrapped from school dinner menus.

Now, in the biggest shake-up in years, classics such as fish and chips will be changed as part of a Government war on childhood obesity.

From next September, schools in England will no longer be allowed to serve deep-fried foods. 

More fibrous wholegrains and pulses such as lentils and chickpeas will be required on menus alongside main meal options at least once a week – while a portion of vegetables or salad should accompany, or be incorporated into, every main meal.
