Two men in their 20s die after collapsing during the Great North Run

Two runners in their 20s have died after collapsing during the Great North Run. 

The men, who were both aged 25 and from the North East of England, fell ill during Sunday’s half-marathon event and died ‘despite the very best efforts’ of medical teams. 

The cause of death has yet to be ascertained.

The organisers of the race said that no further details will be released out of respect for the men’s families.

The Great Run Company said: ‘It is with deep sadness, The Great Run Company can confirm the death of two participants at yesterday’s Great North Run.
