The fallout from a controversial Manchester derby continues after Erling Haaland’s winner was allowed by VAR, which has prompted an official apology to Manchester United.
Amid confusion over the goal, the Premier League have explained the goal was awarded because Fernandez did not play the ball.
A statement reads: “VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside – and determined that Haaland was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.
“The VAR also deemed that while in an offside position, Fernandez didn’t play the ball.”
