Imran Khan’s sister has been arrested ahead of protests demanding he is released from prison.
Aleema Khanum was reportedly detained on Sunday afternoon over allegations that she has mobilised supporters of her brother – Pakistan‘s ex-prime minister – ‘through social media and public meetings’.
She will remain in detention for 30 days.
Ms Khanum’s arrest comes ahead of protests that are being planned for next week in opposition to her brother and former PM Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
In 2023 he was handed a three-year prison sentence after he failed to declare money he had earned selling gifts he received during his time in office.
