Earth’s life support systems are failing, scientists have warned – as seven out of nine planetary boundaries have now been breached.
A new report, called Planetary Health Check 2026, was written by more than 60 international scientists and assesses the state of our planet’s health.
They analysed a range of measures including climate change, ocean acidification, stratospheric ozone depletion, land system changes and biosphere integrity.
Four are in the ‘high–risk’ red zone and three are in the ‘increasing–risk’ yellow zone – while only two remain in the ‘safe’ green zone.
