Trump drops diesel export ban threat before US mid-terms – as Europe agrees to release reserves

Donald Trump has dropped threats of a diesel export ban after European states bowed to demands to release some reserves. 

The president declared that G7 partners would be releasing ‘massive’ amounts of stocks, after he pressured them to bring down energy prices before US mid-term elections next month.

But France’s Emmanuel Macron said a call involving leaders of the powerful bloc had also ruled out ‘measures to restrict the exchange of energy and petroleum products between partner countries’.
