Lithuania closes major airport and scrambles NATO jets after drone alert after Russians targeted German runway

Lithuania’s main airport was closed and NATO jets were scrambled following a drone alert earlier today.

It is understood the suspected drone, which was spotted near Vilnius Airport, was flying between Lithuania and Belarus.

The incident comes after Ukrainian planes were targeted with a remotely-controlled flying bomb on a German runaway in a suspected Russian attack.

A drone packed with Semtex slammed into the wing of a stationary Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig/Halle Airport late on August 4 but failed to detonate.
