The head of Tennessee‘s prison service has resigned just days after presiding over the bungled execution of convicted killer Christa Pike.
The US state’s Commissioner of Correction Frank Strada stepped down on Saturday following the failed killing of the 50-year-old, who survived two lethal doses of the sedative pentobarbital last Wednesday.
Pike was left in critical condition, according to her lawyers, and is on life support in hospital and has burns on her arms around the injection sites.
Mr Strada said his department had carried out its responsibilities ‘in accordance with established protocol’, but added that ‘stepping aside is in the best interest
