Man ‘murdered 60-year-old retiree, moved his family into victim’s home, redecorated it and drained his pension and life savings’

A retiree who disappeared more than two years ago was murdered by a man who then took his life savings, pension and renovated his home, a court has heard.

Ibrahim Yosif, 44, is accused of killing Gary Piatek, 60, who disappeared on April 18, 2024, after he went drinking in Leicester.

Leicester Crown Court heard Yosif and his relatives drained the man’s bank accounts ‘because they were confident that Gary would never say a thing’.

The victim lived an ‘unassuming life’ in Broad Avenue in the Evington area of Leicester, where he had lived for most of his life, jurors were told.
