The search for a British professional surfer has been called off after he went missing while paddle boarding off the coast of Portugal.
Emergency services were called to the seaside resort of Arrifana on Monday morning following reports Arran Strong, 28, had vanished in the Atlantic Ocean.
Mr Strong had been doing a 560-mile paddle boarding marathon with a friend, Jose Maria Pyrrait, who suddenly saw his board ‘drifting about 100 metres away’.
The National Maritime Authority (AMN) has now confirmed its search was called off on Wednesday.
