Andy Burnham has been urged to ‘reduce the cost of doing business’ as High Street sales wilt in the heat.
As the Prime Minister sets out his plan to save Britain’s ‘hollowed-out’ town centres with a clampdown on vape shops and bookmakers, retail bosses sounded the alarm over high taxes and red tape crippling business.
The comments came as figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) showed sales rose by just 1.3 per cent year-on-year in July – well below the 2.5 per cent uplift seen 12 months earlier.
