Two people have died on a Greek island as another wildfire in Belgium – which doubled in size within 24 hours – spread towards Germany.
Europe continued to be ravaged by wildfires caused by hot, dry weather as Greek police said two bodies were found today in the village of Peristeria, on Salamina, west of Athens.
Some 260 firefighters were sent to tackle the Greek blaze alongside ten aircraft and eight helicopters, which battled against near-gale-force winds fuelling the fire’s spread.
