Nursing graduates are being forced to stack supermarket shelves as they can’t get jobs in the NHS, a union has warned.
Students – many with huge debts – face ‘unacceptable barriers’ to finding work, said the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
Some 33 per cent of entry–level vacancies for nurses last month required experience that ‘blocked’ new graduates applying, according to members of the RCN’s students committee.
Just a quarter of them were full–time, permanent and open to those without professional experience, according to RCN analysis.
