The 20 areas which take out most cash – and those abandoning it quickest as machines disappear

Every single constituency in Britain has seen a drop in withdrawals from cash machines since 2019, data shows. 

But some locations remain more reliant on cash withdrawals than others, as we  reveal below. 

In the first six months of 2026 people in Britain made 500million fewer visits to cash machines than in the first six months of 2019, cash machine operator Link said. 

While the number of times people use cash machines is dropping, people were typically withdrawing more money each visit this year. 

The average amount withdrawn across London and the South East of England topped £100 this year, while in northern parts
