But where you fly from could make all the difference, with new research revealing the UK airports where passengers are most likely to face lengthy waits.

Air passenger rights experts at AirAdvisor analysed 20 of the UK’s busiest airports, examining the percentage of scheduled departures delayed by more than 60 minutes over the past 12 months.

And topping the list is Manchester Airport, where 7.73 per cent of scheduled departures took off more than an hour late – equivalent to around one
