France and Spain are facing a growing wildfire crisis which has forced hundreds of thousands to flee homes and tourist hotels.

Wildfires have wrought destruction, with 220,000 evacuated in south-west France and 116,000 in Spain.

Popular holiday spots around Bordeaux and Madrid have been hit with fires, which have ravaged rapidly through grasslands.

Officials are now weighing up a “total evacuation” of Bordeaux and the surrounding region of Gironde as President Emmanuel Macron’s government plans a crisis meeting later on Monday.

Regional authorities are also warning tourists to stay away from Gironde despite previous assurances from French authorities…
